DPWH Eyes Completion of 2 Contract Packages for Marawi Trancentral Roads by February 2021

Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced that two (2) on going contract packages for the design and build of Marawi Transcentral Roads will be completed by February 2021. 

Despite a challenging 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic, we are looking at the new year 2021 with the completion of our projects in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur, said Secretary Villar. 

Our team from the DPWH Unified Project Management Office Operations (UPMO) headed by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain have just finished an inspection and a walk through of the Marawi Transcentral Roads and we are on track to see the revitalization and renaissance that Marawi City is close to realizing, added Secretary Villar. 

Other who had accompanied Underscretary Sadain to the inspection includes UPMO Project Directors Virgilio C. Castillo and Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim, Bureau of Maintenance Director Ernesto S. Gregorio Jr. , and Project Manager Francisco Sawali. 

In his report to Secretary Villar, Undersecretary Sadain said that finishing touches are now being work by contractor Kouzbary Builders for the first week of February completion of the contract package 2 with a total project length of 4.11 kilometers. 

At 99 percent complete, contract package 2  covers the rehabilitation and improvement of MSU-GMA Road and Lumindong-Amaipakpak Avenue. 

Additionally, contract package 1B with a total length of 5.45 kilometers and at 93 percent will be completed by the end of February.

The contract package 1B includes Marcos Boulevard, Idarus Road, Bacong-Poona Marantao-Marawi Road, Marawi-Cadre-New Capitol Road, and GMA Terminal Access Road. 

Meanwhile, the level of completion for the 9.41 kilometers contract package 1A is around 66 percent and will be completed by second quarter of this year. 

The contract package covers Bacong-Marantao Section, MSU-Beyaba Damag Section, Basak-Malutlut-Datu Saber Section, Matampay-Emie Section, Sagonsongan-Saguiaran Jct., Saguiaran Road Section, and Lancaf-Heaven Road Gap Section. 

We are expecting that all these roads under contract package1A will be done by the end of second quarter, said Undersecretary Sadain. 

According to Undersecretary Sadain, these road rehabilitation projects amounting P970.973 Million financed by a grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will pave the way for improved mobility of people and for better access to goods and services.  

The DPWH Unified Project Managament Office Roads Management Cluster 1 oversee the implementation of the three (3) civil works packages for Marawi Transcentral Roads as well as the project management contract for the detailed engineering design of CP3 – Phase 3 consisting of 13 road sections with a total length of 18.78 kilometers aimed at bringing back better the former glory of the country’s only Islamic City. 

Funding for the Marawi Transcentral Road Phase 3 and 19.8 kilometers Marawi City Ring Road are included in the JICA loan for Road Network Development Project in Conflict-Affected Areas in Mindanao. 

Asian Development Bank will also finance projects under the Reconstruction and Development Plan for a Greater Marawi, a master development plan geared towards inclusive economic growth for Marawi City and its peripheral areas. The components of the plan includes 21.87 kilometer Transcentral Road Phase IV, construction of Malabang Viaduct, construction of Bridges, and five (5) other projects from Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (BMCRRP) list of projects.
